What are the different types of special needs children?

There are 13 different exceptionalities that special education students can be classified under.

  • Autism or ASD (autism spectrum disorder)
  • Deaf-Blindness
  • Deafness
  • ED (emotional disturbance)
  • Hearing Impairment
  • Intellectual Disabilities (mild, moderate, or severe)
  • Multiple Disabilities
  • Orthopedic Impairment
  • OHI (other health impairment)
  • SLD (specific learning disability)
  • Speech or Language Impairment
  • TBI (traumatic brain injury)
  • Visual Impairment (includes blindness)

Some students will have more than one exceptionality.
